The Friends of the Music at St Peter’s Church
The Friends organisation was formed to provide all kinds of financial assistance to St Peter’s Church Music. They provide invaluable help with the expenses of running the choir and other musical activities in Church.
They raise funds by means of an annual subscription (or life membership package) and by putting on highly enjoyable social events. Recent events have included Pancake parties; Fish, chips and Quiz nights; Barn Dances and suppers; parties at various members’ houses; Friends’ meal with a Guest speaker. The last three were former curate Very Rev Charles Taylor, now Dean of Peterborough and Very Rev Keith Jones, the Dean of York and Very Rev John Clarke, the Dean of Wells (funny how these things revolve around food!).
There is a Festal Eucharist on a Sunday each October focusing on the work of the Friends and offering thanks for all they do for worship here. There are occasional concerts and other events as well.
The Friends are a Charity who provide the choir with robes and some of their music. They pay for vocal training and scholarships. They have underwritten countless enterprises such as Outreach and Recordings and are an invaluable help in so many ways
Membership of the Friends is open to all, with a nominal annual subscription of £10 per individual membership, or £25 for a family. If you would like to join the Friends please write to the address below.
